Diamond Necklace

Hi

Am looking for some advice on trying to sell a necklace i have had for ony 12 months as times are really really hard at the moment (never seem to have any money at all) anyway its a specialist piece have spoken to a few auction houses but dont really want to risk this. Put it on ebay aswell but had no bids at all. I have included a link to it, its worth £1600 but i dont want anywhere near that, i would of thought for an item worth that i would have people snapping my hands off to buy

You say you don't want to risk a real auction, is that because they out a low estimate on it?

It is a pretty piece but as a fashion type item it loses an awful lot of the value second hand and you may well be very disappointed in what it fetches. I would have thought though that a B and M auction house would have been ideal.

    Hi

    ..its worth £1600l..

So you'll get around £400 for it then if you're lucky. I sold some jewellery to a jewellers and they actually told me they give a quarter of what they'll put it in their shop for. :(

    What's it worth?

On the whole jewellery is worth no where near what you pay for it or think it's worth. And valuations for insurance purposes are simply fantasy.

This was recently highlighted in the Shopping Telly forums. Eighteen months ago someone bought an item for £599. It's recently been valued at £4,250. Sounds too good to be true, and of course it is. Could they sell it for £4,250? Probably not. I doubt they'd even get £599 for it. It tends to be that gold is only worth the scrap value, but as this also has diamond chips it makes it more difficult to value just from the weight which is why I think a real auction will be better as someone might be tempted to buy just because they like it rather than on value.
