There has been a problem with getting all of the required data from some banks - Barclaycard and Abbey are two that try to wriggle out of their responsibility under the DPA, and try to force you to buy statements - which as per the previous posts, isn't the whole story - at a price per page because their microfiche 'isn't covered' by the DPA. If anybody encounters this then stand your ground.

I want to claim from lloyds tsb but need to ask for 2 years of statements which means I woill have to pay £120:eek: is there any other way I can get these statements without having to pay so much?
I thought I read somewhere that you can pay just £10 to get all the statements you need, is this true?
    Thankyou.:A

Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • Please see the above posts, basically you are not asking for your statements but a fully comprehensive list of past charges. If you ask for statements you may well be charged per statement.
  • Hi guys

My friend & I are both starting the process of claiming money back - he asked for 6 years of statements, and they (Halifax I think) tried to charge him £600.

I've been told that it is your right to have any info they have on file about you. Should they charge for it? What sort of procedure (as in: my rights in regarding asking for records of my calls/statements/charges etc) should I follow.

I had a quick look down the forum, couldn't find anything related to this... thanks in advance

  • Please read the above posts as you aren't asking for copies of your statements for which they are entitled to charge but all info held on you under the Data Protection Act which they may charge you £10.

This does mean than the info comes in the form or statements or in fact lists from which you have to extract the bank charges yourself.

Follow the first step in Martin's article for full details.
  • Hi,

Having just received a whole bunch of duplicate statements from abbey i have noticed they are not exactly the same as our normal statements. Normally on the front sheet when we receive our statements each month it gives a breakdown of charges and when they will be debited.... on the duplicate statements abbey have deleted this section!!!!!

Thought i would warn you all as i was looking through thinking i had no charges when in fact what i have to do with these is look through every transaction list of every statement very closely to see what they have taken.
    Cunning trick me thinks!!!!

    hope this helps

  • As above posts, you are in fact not asking for duplicate statements but all info held on you and your accounts.
