Hi, can anyone advise. i have just been in to the Yorkshire Bank to open a basic bank account - Readycash I think its called - anyway did the application and then she told me she would check what product they could offer me. When she came back she said it had been referred to Head Office, what does this mean? I thought they had to offer a basic account. Does this mean I am going to get turned down? I do have a terrible credit history I know but I don't want any credit facilities. Any advice welcome please!!!!!!!!

hmm thats unusual but u should hear something in the next few daysFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
You should be able to open a ReadyCash Account even with a poor credit history (Defaults, CCJ's etc). Only if you have been bankrupt might you face a problem.
When I applied for mine some months ago they carried out a credit check just to confirm my identity and I was accepted there and then.
Try ringing the branch and asking them to explain why it has been referred.0 -
the two main reasons for the credit searchiaye carramba!0

I have just rung the branch and they said sometimes it does get referred and it might be to do with the credit search but I thought the Readycash account was basically for people with poor credit. She is going to ring me back and I will be so embarassed if I get turned down for this basic account and don't know where else to try. Any advice much appreciated.0

Just had a thought, could it be that I didn't specifically ask for a Readycash account, just said I wanted an account that I could just have payments into and a card, maybe she has done an application for a current account as she did say after we'd done the application she would see "what products we can offer you"? I only wanted one!!!!!!!!!!!0

Yea that sounds like it, if you didnt ask for only a ready cash they would have done a standard credit search and so its been referred. I would ring her back again and tell her you only wanted the Ready - Cash account, nothing else. This is quite a common problem.
If you dont get this account try the co-operative bank, Nationwide or natwestFor everthing else there's mastercard.

Just wondered if you know - if they have done a credit search for a full current account, its obviously going to be declined so will or might they offer me a Readycash account automatically or will I have to do another application? What I am trying to say is will they say, "we cant offer you a full current account but can offer you a Readycas one".0

If they can offer you the ReadyCash Account I don't see them needing to re-run the credit search as they have already done this for your previous application.0 -
I think they've scored you because usually the branch get bonus points for opening full facilities accounts/banks would prefer to give you such account because it makes more money than the basic ones. It happened to me twice - with RBS and Nationwide; but in the end I was offered their basic accounts.
On the FSA website there should be leaflet with all basic accounts on offer - I also have Coop's Cashminder that comes with Electron card. Coop likes to brag about how this one is created to be offered to people with less than perfect credit history/no full employment/homeless/etc.iaye carramba!0
