What's the likely penalty?

A friend of mine was driving through Hull the other day and got flashed by a speed camera, they were doing about 35mph in a 30 mph area.
What is the penalty likely to be, does anyone know?
Would it be a points on licence and fine or do they have the scheme in Hull where you can opt to go on a better driving course?

TIA

3 points and £60 fine. At 35MPH, they are above the limit for a speed awareness course.

What would be the limit for one, I don't know much about them. I feel a bit bad though as they were doing me a favour at the time.

will paying his fine make you feel less guilty, he gets the points, you get the fine.
You will still be getting the good end of the deal.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Looking at the Association of Chief Police Officers site gives the following information

"Previously, only those travelling at up to 10% above the limit plus 6mph could be offered one of the courses.
But the amendments were agreed by chief constables at a meeting of the Association of Chief Police Officers in January.
For a 30mph zone, the upper limit for a speeding course would be 42mph."

Acpo said the figure at which a course could be offered was a decision for individual forces, and not all would make it available for higher speeds.
East Riding and Hull City were in a partnership and did offer speeding seminars, not sure if they are still in a partnership

Many cameras have no film in them but flash anyway. He may get nothing in the post.

So if it was 10% plus 6mph that would still be 39mph then if they are still offering them.

he might get offered the course - i just did. To clarify, the course costs £95 and it is 3 hours long. They sometimes have them in the evenings or on weekends but they are subject to availability. Which means he may have to take unpaid leave to do it. They are happy for you to book the course in a few months time though - its not like you have to do it within a week or two of getting the notice

alternatively you can pay a fine (mine was set at £65 for going 57 in a 50 zone) and get 3 points but be careful and check your car insurance as sometimes you have to declare it to them when you get points on your license.

I decided to go on the course because i'm a bit geeky and think i would probably enjoy it thoroughly (i know, i know)

I must admit, I'd be going a lot faster than 35 mph if I was trying to get out of Hull. :)
