Opening a new cash isa

I opened a new cash isa in March with the Halifax and transferred in money from 2 years of previous isas which show as being credited to my account on 6 April 2011. I'm not happy with their service or product as I have found out that it is not an 'online' account as I was incorrectly informed by a staff member when I visited a branch.

I haven't made any new payments in yet this tax year. Can I open up another cash isa now and transfer my already transferred isas to it or do I have to leave the money where it is until next year now?

    Yes, you can transfer again immediately, assuming it was a Halifax instant-access ISA you chose. If it was a fixed-term ISA, you'll have to check the T&C for the rules - I think you can transfer immediately, but there may be a penalty of some sort.

    Interesting conversation is this! Mind if I ask a question which is vaguely related the the topic?

    I transferred several years worth of Cash ISA's from Santander to the Halifax ISA Direct Reward 4 in January of this year.
    I too was advised that this could be an 'online operated account' and the bank sent the info to set up online banking.
    I duly did so and the whole thing was up and running pretty quickly. Other, very small - old and almost forgotten - branch based 'pass book' type accounts appeared on screen in the online banking facility within 24 or so hours.... but no shiney new ISA!

    I've queried this with Halifax call centre agents on a couple of occasions during the last 2/3 months and on each occasion they've assured me that they can see the ISA sitting in the list of accounts I hold and that it should appear on my screen within one or two days. Prompted by this thread I've just checked again today... and still no ISA is listed. Any suggestions as to exactly how/where I should raise this matter with Halifax. I have no recent knowledge or experience of dealing with this bank so any pointers would be really helpful. Thanks.

    you can add it on manually if you have the roll no or account no and sort code etc...I did it myself last week after I opened a new saver account. THe guy on the phone told me it would "appear" next day - it didnt...but I manually added it on, and that sorted it.

    After you have logged on, go to change details, which is at top RHS under your name..

    Well! How easy was that!
    Thank you very much for that information hcb42. You should be on the payroll at Halifax.
    Much appreciated!

    Love it!:rotfl::T
  • Thanks for the advice opinions4u. Can you just confirm that if I set up a web saver reward, I can withdraw funds online to a nominated bank account, ie my Lloyds one, not just a Halifax one? btw After wasting over 1hr of my time on this, being cut off 3 times over 2 days and having a right moan, I have been reimbursed £10 by the Halifax for my phone calls and inconvenience - still not keen on opening another account with them though - or having to deal with them over the phone so in a bit of a catch 22 really!

    I've been informed today by Halifax that if I want to transfer funds out of my new ISA, I have to do it via Telephone Banking. I thought this was an online account so I'm a bit peeved. You can transfer funds to a nominated account which doesnt have to be a Halifax account, it's just you can't do it online.

    Hope that helps.
  • I'm peeved too - shame they didn't tell me that when I went into the branch, transfer form in hand and double checked with the staff as I couldn't find a link on their online banking website to set anything up. I was asked if I had another Halifax account which I told them I did not and I was assured that although I would have to pay money in via branch or telephone, I could set up a nominated bank account online to make withdrawals once the money had transferred in. I was also told that because I currently had a nil balance, this was why I was not able to set this up. Clearly this was wrong and neither the website I went via or the Halifax site made it obvious that this is only an online account IF you already have another Halifax account. It does state this on the Halifax site now although I could swear it wasn't at the end of March when I opened my account. I would never have given them my money in the first place but I guess I'm just going to have to wear it now for a year and hope I don't need to take any money out!
