Just a quick warning about a phone call my mum got.

My mum just called me to say that she's had a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and they could see that there was a problem with the windows system on her computer. They wanted her to do type a couple of things in but she ended up just hanging up on them.
Mum is in her mid-60's and only recently bought herself a computer and hasn't got a clue what she's doing on it anyway and is usually on the phone to me 2 or 3 times a day asking me about various things that come up when she's trying to do something.
I haven't heard of anyone phoning people claiming to be from Microsoft before so thought i'd just post a quick warning and although it's just common sense not to speak to these people but sadly some people lack that.

A quick search on here would have found that it has been discussed a few times
A common scam but no harm in reminding people of it.0 -

I have yet to receive one of these calls, as I could have so much fun with them! :rotfl:Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440

My elderly neighbour (90yrs old!!) had one of these calls and even had the man round to "clean" her pc, supposedly for free! He then tried to persuade her to sign up a contract which covered faults on her pc for 2 yrs but she said that at her age she wasn't signing anything for up 2yrs, but did do for 1yr, which was £80. Once I found out I was able to get her money refunded by the bank, but the worst thing was that she had given him "remote access" to her pc for about 5hrs, so is in danger of ID fraud too. I could lynch these b*st*rds who make money out of conning vulnerable people.0

I wish someone like this would phone me.. I could have endless fun with them! It does scare me how little people know about computers though. My motto is to never let anyone do anything/do anything that anyone tells you without first understanding what it is that is going to happen, unless it is someone you trust (eg my Dad! Or I guess some kind of reputable professional..)0

I had one a couple of weeks ago after I had knocked back a fair few lagers and the guy sounded just like George Agdgdgwngo from fonejacker (the Ugandan scammer) so I had good fun with him with my best Terry Tibbs acent. I think by the end of it, he hung up on me as he didn't know what was happening!0
