Car for extended family...

  • We got a Mazda 5 to carry our rabble around in .. 15, 12 and 8 - with two of us adults - there's always one of them wanting a friend to tag along and we've been fully loaded with 4 adults and 3 children all comfortably! Back row of seats (the back back as my son calls it) is the most popular - can't imagine why they all argue to get in there .. must be comfortable enough though I suppose!

My eldest daughter was very disappointed after great initial excitement about the Mazda and 5 in the name .. unfortunately it's missing the all important 'MX' bit that would make it a nice sporty soft-top!

Sliding doors are brilliant - I have been able to give up my parking routing of .. handbrake on, into neutral, engine off, yell loudly to open the doors carefully!!!!! Seats all fold flat, which is great as we have nowhere to store seats if we had to remove them - and the car has been brilliant without the kids to enable us to lug all the stuff we've needed for our house renovation!

Nice and economical - we got the diesel version as we both do lots of miles for work trips. Built in sat nav is handy - and the screen changes to the view out the back when you put it in reverse - great if there isn't a dirty great spider clinging to the camera ... aarrrggghhhhh!

Very pleased with it overall - have owned it for 6 months now and haven't regretted it for a moment!

I've got a Fiat Multipla which I'm very pleased with.

It's got 6 seats and each one is roomy enough to hold a big person comfortably - even my dad who's 20st and over 6ft (but don't tell him I told you!! :D).

We bought it because although we've only got 2 kids when we go out for the day (most weekends) we often take my parents with us as they're retired and don't like to drive long distances or on motorways any more.

It fits 4 adults and 2 child car seats very easily - without anyone knocking elbows and plenty of leg room too. I've already revealed my dad's vital statistics but the other 3 adults - me, my OH and my mum are exactly small either... ;)

Until recently we used a double buggy which fitted easily into the boot space. My parents even came on holiday to Cornwall in it last year with us - about 6/7 hours each way! We used a top box for cases and stuff though but I've seen alot of people carriers with these on...

I think it's a dream to drive too. Our other car is a Fiat Punto (without power-steering) which I've managed to scrape backing out of our drive several times but I've not scraped the Multipla once although it's much wider - go figure?

We looked at the Zafira and similar 7-seater models by other manufacturers but liked the idea of a 6-seater because there's no-one trapped in the back seats without a door to get out of in the event of an accident/fire/etc - my OH is a very cautious person ;)

I think the best thing to do is to shop around a bit first and see what suits you and your needs cos it can be a bit like holidays - someone can recommend somewhere because it's the best holiday they ever had and you try it and hate everything about it and every minute you're there!!!

    Good luck MC

    Hello, everyone.

Does anyone know if you can get three children's car seats in the second row of a Touran?

    Many thanks.
Hi, I haven't tried on ours as we have 2 children but I would think so, depending on style and the age of children. The only thing I would say as I've mentioned before there is a 'tunnel' on the floor in the middle of the 2nd row, so unless childs legs are not yet long enough to reach ground, he would have to sit with legs either side of the 'tunnel'. I have done this and found it uncomfortable for anything but a short journey.

We have a Britax Duo Isofix, an Evolva 123 and a Hi-liner along the middle row of our Touran. The Evolva is wider than average yet all 3 car seats still fit in fine. You can avoid searching for seat belts altogether by using isofix seats on the outer seats and using a 5 point harness seat in the middle.
