Can I avoid sky connection fee?

Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here!?
I currently have my landline and broadband with talktalk but have shopped around and the best deal for me would be sky ( i pay sky monthly for tv!)
When I rang them to sign up, they told me there is a connection charge of around £30.
I cant afford this but I will save money with sky if I get all phone, broadband and tv all in one.
I am not in a contract with talktalk anymore and had trouble with them hence the shopping around for a cheaper deal!

Simple answer £30 is cheap to move from Talk Talk.they now own your line and it has nothing to do with the BT Network.

Any supplier will need you to be transferred from TT which involves a fee.

Now then Sky say "Did you know you can get a new phone line from Sky?

When you select Broadband & Talk you'll be asked to enter your phone number. If you don't have a compatible line, you can get a new one from Sky. The usual cost for this is £39 but until 30 June you can get a new line for £10 when you take Sky Line Rental."
http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/talk-options/ so it may be worth trying to order online and see what the charge comes out as, if you need to call refer to the webpage.

AFAIK, only BT will take a line back free of charge.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You pay Sky around £240 pa minimum for subscription TV, but you can't afford a £30 connection fee?
If your existing TT line is LLU (you don't say?) then you can't go direct to another LLU, you have to go back via BT on a return to donor, which is free, but requires a 12m line rental contract. Otherwise you'll have to pay for a new line.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

TT DON't 'own' your line - they STILL rent the local loop from BT Wholesale - it is simply that all billing is through TT, and not BT. Also you are ALWAYS in contract with whoever provides service. You may only have to give 30 days notice to leave, but that's a different issue.
