what is the set up fee for a forum such as this one (v bulletin)? and then running cost? thanks in advance

I would say it depends on what you want to use it for, the number of users and posts, availability etc etc..
If you are just starting why use vBulletin at £90 a licence when you could use a freeware alternative (such as YaBB) to start building a user base?
Costs from there will depend on your hosting solutions. Will you have a dedicated forum server (for high turnover) will you host it yourself?

You can set up a forum for free - free webhost, freeware BB scripts.
Alternatively if you are expecting the volumes of traffic that the likes of google receives then you are needing a server farm, most likely bespoke software and significant net connections/ bandwidth.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
