Ok for my profile on CV???

Hi everyone,

please can someone help me with the following. I really really want this job and I am already daydreaming about doing it so need to try my absoloute best to get it.

I have already sent an e-mail saying that I think it is fate that the job has come up now as I had resigned only a few weeks ago due to stress. I didn't however attach a cv as it didn't ask for one. Anyway, would you send the begging again along with the cv or just the cv is my first question and secondly, is the following ok for the profile bit on your cv:

Until recently I have worked for the *** as ******** Team Leader. A mainly celrical role, I would prepare rosters to ensure 24 hour coverage, extract information relevant to telecommunications and write reports relevant to our department to show all call answering times, bleep usage and frequency of emergencies. I also routinely took part in the on-call rota incase of technical or staffing difficulties.
I am an approachable, flexible and friendly person who enjoys helping people and learning. I understand the importance of customer service and how vital it is to treat people with dignity and respect. Hardworking and trustworthy, I always go the extra mile.

Is that enough? Do you think I should do a covering letter or leave it?

You've typo'd in clerical.

I think what you've written is plenty, going on too much. Your profile should say who you are, what you can do and what you're looking for - I don't really think it's the place to talk about duties in specific roles.

Thanks, I didn't use beg but did use fate unfortunately. It's something that I have no experience in but great interest that's why I am nervous. I know hundreds have applied so maybe my note on how much I would appreciate the chance of that role has worked who knows....

I'm not suggesting you should ever lie but you want to get their attention through what you can do and why you are right for them.

Anyway, you can't change what you've sent, but moving forwards:
They should tell you how to apply - ie by application form or CV. If you can't see this on the details about the job I'd suggest you just send your CV along with a formal email along the lines of 'Please accept my CV as application for the position of...'

I dont think a paragraph like that is what is required for a Profile. THis should be more of a description of you as an individual (career focused obviously) e.g. a strong people focused Team Leader with exceptional customer service skills.. " or the like.

This para above , which needs some proofing, would be more appropriate in a covering letter - although some points will also be required in the body of the CV - I tend to keep those results focused e.g. "increased team sales by x% and contributed to overall profitability growth of y%" ; "was awarded TL of the year in XYZ Corporation for service excellence" and the like...

I'm afraid if I was responsible for recruiting for this job, you'd be in the 'fruitcake' pile.

Yup: professional letters should be light on emotion, weighted towards facts.

And any covering letter or email should always be professional: your mystic feelings about the job are of no more interest than your desperation to get it!

If you have genuinely done the above then keep looking as it is most unlikely you will be hearing from the company.

Why oh why would you mention that you had resigned from your latest job from stress????? Doh!

it's perhaps worth explaining that although I see all the emails requesting job packs, I'm not usually directly involved in shortlisting. I would mentally have put the OP in the 'fruitcake' pile, but the shortlisting team would not normally see the emails, just the application forms. So as long as the OP now resists the temptation to share her (*) touch-feely side, and as long as the employer shortlists on the data in the application rather than on the personal details, and as long as the OP responds to the job description and person spec in enough detail to demonstrate that they meet the essential requirements of the job, then ...

* I'm making an assumption here. I don't know many males who would think it was 'fate' that a job had been advertised just as they'd resigned. But maybe I mix with the wrong kind of male. If so I apologise to the OP and all touchy-feely males.

Wow, thanks for the negative replies, just what everyone needs. Didn't mention to the lady that I had been off with work related stress. As the job I am applying for is a complete career change it didn't seem necessary.

As for the 'fruitcake' label well poor you for feeling it's necessary to label everyone. My god, you must have a boring life. You see fit to comment on me for being honest? Why would you lie when someone is only going to ring for a reference for you?

I can honestly say in my four years of recruiting staff that I have never thought fruitcake or any other derogatory comment to explain an applicant. Maybe that's why you are only sending the job packs out...

Thankyou Clay, I feel that is exactly what I did with the first e-mail sent. Hundreds applied for the job but I have since been asked to send a cv. All I was asking, maybe a little waffled this afternoon, was if there was anything else I could do to stand out. The role I have applied for would require a 'touchy feely' side.
