Barclaycard platinum

I have a Barclaycard with about £1000 credit on it. When I called Barclays to make a balance transfer they said that I did not have any balance transfer offers on my account. Is this usual? I thought that you could just balance transfer regardless - even a 16.9% APR would help (I am trying to transfer money from a high APR card). Any advice?

You're right. Offers should have nothing to do with it. Maybe need to call and try again - a lot people (including the call centre staff) only ever think of BTs in terms of 0% or whatever, so they may not have understood what you were asking for.

OK, thanks zx81. That definitely makes sense to me. I'll try again over the weekend as even 16.9% is better than 24.9% on the other card.

    Use the online account, Mybarclaycard.com

Theres a option there called something like " transfer a balance", Its much easier doing it this way then speaking to somebody in a call centre.

I tried that Ralphy101 but it said "You are unable to make a balance transfer at this time"

I'm of the same opinion , with the op that you could transfer regardless- perhaps not ? Why don't you look into obtaining another card ? Or email barcalaycard customer service - and state you need to free up funds and would like to transfer a balance - could they assist you ? See what they say - if you don't ask u do t get , and providing your credit history is good..... Could always apply for a 0% bt card somewhere else, I would email if you can get your point across better.

Not a bad idea. I'll give it a go.

They did this to me once and I couldn't transfer for quite a few months. This includes trying to transfer at my standard apr, I did ask them to explain and I spoke to several people and they can refuse you a balance transfer. Does seem very daft to me as I could max out the card shopping but they weren't prepared to take on another lenders debt!

If they keep messing you around (as they have me) why not just use the card for your every day purchases then use the money that would have gone on that to pay off your high APR card? That's what I plan to do!
Debt at worst: £33000 (Feb 2011). Present debt: £25610 (Apr 2012)
    Lloyds old (22.4%) = 560 (Dec 2012)
