Scottish Power cancellation charge - within optout period
Options
Basically Scottish Power want to charge me for switching (was on Energy Saver 9), I used Uswitch on the 1st April .....
I enquired about changing before March 31st and was told I would basically be charged if I moved before thus I waited until April 1st to change. Thus using Uswitch on April 1st I changed to British Gas 13 (best on there at the time) I received a few emails over the next few days by British Gas and thought I would email Scottish Power to confirm I was changing aswell within the allotted time of between 1st April and 31st April,
quote[cancel the new tariff (by switching to another gas and/or electricity supplier or by requesting to change your gas and/or electricity to another of our tariffs) after 30th April 2011 and before 31st March 2012, they may apply cancellation charges inclusive of VAT of £30.64 for electricity and £20.42 for gas.]
the email below is what I have received
I cannot state how much this has annoyed me, I am within my rights to change am I not? Between 1st April and 31st?
I just received this which has my blood boiling

Dear Mr C,
Thank you for your email.
We have not received any request from other supplier regarding supply at your property.
Once we will receive a request from your new supplier, we will finalise your account with us.
This process takes 45 days, after that we will issue a final bill to you.
The current service package on your account is Online Energy Saver 9, April 2012 which will mature on 31st March 2012.
If you cancel your contract before 31st March 2012, then you will be charged £30.64 for electricity and £20.42 for gas as cancellation fees.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
If you have further questions then you can use our online facility 24 hours a day available at via the Help link.

Oh another thing, that standard "I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused." really does not help as it is on every email even if you ask them a normal Question.....
Have I missed something??? I have emailed British Gas to ensure they expedite this but I have given them notice within the correct period??
Regards
Darren

There is an 'if'. As you haven't they won't. If they do then a mistake has been made. I am not sure why you are annoyed.0

I was seething at the time and have now had some time to calm down!
As I have set the wheels in motion (and passed the 7 day notice to terminate my switch over) the British Gas switch over will go ahread reading his email from today, he states they are going to charge, am I correct in stating this would be incorrect of Scottish Power or have I missed something or been unaware of some other nuance about terminating my renewal contract? Never had to trouble with this before.
I do not particularly wish to stay with Scottish Power as this is not a partucularly good tarrif now.

Just received this thus issue solved, think I bit with that email a little too soon and should have taken a deep breath and allowed them to rectify first....Apologies Scottish Power
Dear Mr C,
Thank you for your email.
As you have stated in your email that you do not wish to pay any cancellation charges for changing supplier, I have changed your service package to Online Standard Monthly Direct Debit where you will not be paying any cancellation charges on changing your supplier.0
