Garage Lighting - reasonable price??

Hi All,
we currently have a double socket in our garage - I assume it comes from one of the sockets in the kitchen (above) we are wanting to have lighting installed in there, and wondered about the cost. If it is possible to come from the socket that would be fine, but if it needs to come from fuse box that may be a problem...as it is at total opposite end of house
We were initially thinking of having spotlights - but have decided against this and gone for striplights instead, as they give off more light. So it will be two striplights - just the wiring for it, as we are doing the ceiling ourselves so we will be able to fit the actual lights.
Got an electrician calling tomorrow morning to have a look and give me a price.
Any ideas on price would be much appreciated guys!
Thanks

You should be able to come off the socket with a fused switch and then feed the lights from this. Not sure how big your garage is, but I would say no more than 1/2 day work if run in plastic trunking, including testing. Materials, maybe £40/50 inlc the lights. The only other thing he'll need to check is if the earthing (bonding) to water and gas pipes is in place and the correct size
Hope this helps

Thanks very much !
The garage is small, only 7ft by 10ft. There is no wall work to be done as we have not yet plasterboard-ed the garage.
So at about £25 per hour? making it about £140-£150 incl. the lights?

No. A sparks would allow a day plus materials. 2 5' strip lights are £15 - £20 each, cable, conduit, FSU, etc. More like £150 plus materials. Say £210 upwardsEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
The garage isn't that big - so I think 2 x 5 ft flurries would be a bit much!
Labour costs vary from area to area which is why I didn't put a price.
For me, in London, half day would be £150
best to get your quotes and compare them. We've not seen the job, your quoters willl

Thanks for that fluff.
I think we are going to have two 4 foot lights now instead. Would be problematic to just have one striplight in centre, as there is a big metal girder that would be in the way of the light on one side.
I've had a guy out this morning, and he is going to write a quote up for me. He had a look at the current socket that's there and said that the wire would need to be chased back, and secured properly, as it is just hanging at the moment where it comes through the cellar! Also, he needs to check the earthing to the gas and water supply, before he will be able to proceed with the job. Not sure what that means but sounded like he knew what he was talking about....
Meanwhile, I have been on myhammer and been quoted £149 from a company on there, seems reasonable?
But I think I will wait and see what the local one comes back and says, since he has seen the socket etc.
