Hi,
That 15k loan and 600 service is that for an expensive car?
Can you sell that?0 -
Hi All, sorry I've had a few problems with my pc since the last post.
Clapton - there is no control freaky stuff going on, and we both really do want to have children. I've talked a little about the worry about having kids with him and it was him who persuaded me to come off the pill etc. He earns a little bit more than I do - i think he brings home about £2k a month. but he's in sales so sometimes does better, or worse.
Reading through all of the posts so far, I think that my debts are much more in control than I first thought and I seem to have saved a lot already, just from writing it down and realising where I'm overspending, and where I've over budgeted.
I understand completely why my husband doesn't want to pay off my debts, and instead he treats me to things that I normally wouldnt' be able to do, like the gym, and a holiday maybe.
I do need to sit down and express my worries with him though, so thank you all. x0 -

The loan is from bad advise from banks, and the £600 is for a old car that needed a lot of work doing to it, to keep it on the road - cheaper than trying to buy a new car that might also break down next week. x0 -
I think you should go back on the pill until you've both sat down and you've express the worries with him. It will be far too late if you get pregnant now!.Debt Free!!!0

I can understand why you're paying off the debt yourself, but if you're already off the pill then surely he realises that he might have to take over the loan repayments in less than a years time?
I don't know how your finances work, but I would suggest you transfer maybe £400 a month to a joint account & he transfers the rest to meet the household bills & food. This will probably increase his share at the moment but if you say you don't need the gym for a while & decide to have only the cheapest holiday in the UK next summer hopefully it should balance.
You can then still pay for your car from your account, and if you can cut down on your personal allowance you should have a good amount left over each month to throw at your debts.
Can you make overpayments on the loan? If not once the O/D is clear make sure you put any extra into a high interest account so it's there to cover the repayments when you go on maternity leave.
At the end of the day I really do think you both need to be working together on this - although it's a debt you accrued he's going to have to work with you to clear it, otherwise you'll go on maternity pay & end up defaulting! Are you sure he's not got debts he's trying to clear too?

Your husband would benefit if he helped you pay off your debts, it would be a lot quicker and the interest would be less over time, plus you would not have to worry and concentrate on having a baby.
I've just come out of a marriage where money was always a problem, please do it together and get rid of them coz they can cause resentment0 -
Thank you all for your help. I'm just calling CCCS now, and am going to sit down with my husband tonight and talk to him about all of this. Thank you all x0
