Just wanted to say have you looked into a prescription prepayment certificate? Try this link and see if you can save some money. I get one and it works out a lot cheaper. If you get a yearly one it works out around £8.00 per month so if you get on average more than one prescription per month it should work out cheaper.

£410 per month rent and £85 council tax. Is this the total amount or just your share?0

Hiay, just to check is your rent half or do you pay it all? If its half £820 is so much money..wondering if you can cut this down in any way? I pay Just over £400 for my 2 bed terraced in the SW. If not, could your hubby pay towards the rent bill?
Does your hubby pay towards the other bills (ie Council tax and rates etc?) and can you sacrifie the cleaner so he can pay something off your list instead? Just a thought?
Its hard but you have done the hardest bit now...xxxLightbulb moment 27-11-06

Thanks dancingfairy - I'll have a look at that site, I didn't know anything about them x0 -
Hi and welcome
One thing I noticed is the mobile, could that not be switched to PAYG?
Also if you need a lot of medication I think you can apply to pay for prescriptions quarterly, I seem to remember my mother done something similar once when she was needing a lot of pills.

So you pay £820 and £170 in rent and council tax...what materninty benefits would you get from your employer? I cant see that you will meet even your £310 for your loan if your hubby wont pay the rest of the bills...if your company give you 90% or something for so many weeks you can still pay this debt off whilest off work, but normally, when women have kids and give up work the partner has to take on the bills. I can understand him not wanting to help you with the virgin loan but would his wage cover everything at a push at all? Sorry for asking so many Q's just trying to think of solutions for you hun xxxLightbulb moment 27-11-06

We're in a 2 bed in a small village, and its cheap for the area we live in. We are paying less now than we were when we lived in the nearest town, and we moved here to be close to my Mum - my step father passed away a year ago, and she's not coping.
Yes, he does pay toward the other bills, and I think I might have made a mistake on the council tax too - I think thats all of it. Woohoo I'm making savings as I type! (I'm going to go look at my bills) As for the cleaner - I didn't want him to get one, and have since told him a million times that rather pay her to do (a bad) her job, pay me to do it. He's now thinking about it - but in a contract for another 3 months. x0 -
I suggest doing a spending diary for things that are covered under Personal Allowance. You can then see where that money is going.
Is the food bill just your share or for two?
Either way it is a bit expensive especially if you are paying for lunch at work too.0 -

I hadn't even thought about that, and I suppose he will take on all the bills if I'm not working. He wants to start the family just as much as I do, so would have to help as much as he can.
As for maternity benifits - yikes! I can't begin to imagine what my boss will do or say if I tell him that I'm pregnant one day! We're a very small company, and he panic's (and doesn't cope very well) when I take a 2 week holiday! I'm the office manager, and he just doesn't come into the office or answer any calls while I'm away! I'm sure he's expecting me to come in one day and anounce it, as we've just got married. x0
