Capital One credit limit rises

Hi there

Just wondered how long it takes to get a rise from Capital One? I know this has been asked before but I think it was part of another thread?

I also know there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it but is it worth asking them? I know their website says not to but I'm sure some wise MSE person has a workaround...

thanks

    No workaround it seems.

They randomly give increases of random amounts to random people. If you ring them, you'll just be told that they review accounts and they'll inform you if they decide to give you an increase.

Some people, including myself have had a card with them for years and not had one increase.

Best way to get an increase is close your Cap1 account and apply for a different card with a different bank - and then it's not guaranteed you'll get one of course!

I wrote to the executive office at Cap1 once and they gave me a phone number to call to request a manual account review. I don't remember where I wrote it down though so I don't have it anymore. But I know there is a way.

I've had a cap 1 card since 2003 (platinum, not classic), never missed a payment, pay in full most months, and have not had a single credit limit increase since opening the account.

never asked for one, and don't want one.

I think a lot of capital one classic credit card customers seem to forget that this card is a credit building card and is not like any other mainstream credit card where credit limit increases are a regular thing.

There is a reason why people have a Cap1 classic card, hence one of the reasons why increases may never come.

If you have online capital one there is a section regarding credit limit and increases
Can not post the link as it takes you to my account page but if you log into your online account and then go onto account services it is in there.

"I've not been offered a credit limit increase, can I request one?
If you manage your account well, we will review your credit limit and consider you for an increase. Once you are eligible for an increase we will write and let you know. If you do not want to receive increases or would like us to decrease your credit limit, just let us know by calling 08444 814 000† at any time."

As another poster mentioned the capital one classic card is a credit builder card but i started off with a £200 or £300 limit in 2008 and mine is now up to £2100.

I used to purposly buy things instead of using cash then had it set up with my hsbc bank account where i could go and pay money into the account and then get it sent straight over to capital one if that makes sense.

I am sure that my firs increase in my limit was after my 4th statement.

You also have to remember that each lender gets CRA's updates every month of the customers report on how they are managing other accounts.
