  • I've heard that it may hit the window. Is it touching or all squashed against it?

  • That's great! If I buy one of those packs, I'll try to remember that and not go into a complete panic as I would normally do!!

Next time - just keep an eye on it and turn the machine off if the dough gets close to the window. Wait a few minutes and then select the "Bake" program on your machine.

  • I've got the morphy richards bread maker and mine only does 1 or 1 and a half pound loaves. Perhaps you just put too much in?? I use the sun dried tomato mix (think it is a Wright's one) and I use half and make two smaller loaves.

    Hope this helps!!

  • Since this problem has been sorted, can I tack my problem on the end. It is basically the exact opposite - my bread used to rise as much as OP but now it barely seems to rise at all - I've tried using more yeast and use strong white bread flour and lukewarm water. I haven't changed any quantities (other than yeast but that was after the problem started).

I can't believe it's the machine as all it does is mix the ingredients? It's put me off using it now as the whole point is to have something a bit nicer than you buy in the shops not a lot worse!

Can you post your actual recipe?

You can sometimes get a duff batch of yeast, or it may be that your BM isn't cooking properly or something... but any, with a recipe we might be able to suggest some tweaks :)

  • I've been buying flour improvers and all sorts of speciality ingredients from a seller on ebay.

Apparently her husband is/was a baker

    Had fabulous results every time!
Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.
