Why do you want someone to refer you?
I have just signed up with Hargreaves Landsdown and I am tearing my hair out!
There are numerous problems with their website, including intermittent problems accessing secure pages. All too often the pages just 'hang' and you have to quit IE and start again!
Once the account is open you effectively have to apply for a new Hargreaves Landsdown account each time you wish to put cash into your account so that you can deal! That involves filling in three pages of information!
The only way round this is to ring and ask them to take the cash from your current account instead. In that case you may as well deal via phone as well, especially if they are funds rather shares you are buying (dealing in funds by phone is same price as Internet dealing).
Also, if you wish to sell funds and use proceeds to buy other stock, you cannot do this on the Internet - you have to use the phone!
If you select stock online to buy, it puts the name of the stock in a box that is so small (and non-scrollable) that you cannot read the name of the stock! So you do not know if you have made an error!
It's also supposed to look up your postcode and paste your address automatically - this did not work for me!
And when it asked me for my Building Society reference, it transpired three pages later that they really wanted the name on my bank account! But, by then, there was no way to correct it! So I had to start all over again!
You also have to place an order buy 5pm on one day to buy on the next day. They do not buy on the day you place the order!
All these problems means that online trading is virtually useless!0 -

Don't obviously know if there was a particular reason why you wanted to go with them and in view of Paul's comments, maybe why not have a look at Comdirect - 12.50 transaction and no non-use charge or anything. I got onto them via Plumb1 so got nearly 75 quid or put another way half a dozen free transactions. I could refer you but happy for Plumb1 to do it since he did me a favour. see him on referrals maybe.
hope useful
FKMy website has lots of info and photos from various Greek and Canary Islands esp. about walking. My profile has the site address cos not allowed to put it here.0 -
Have spoken to Hargreaves Landsdown sine my post above and told them of my posting! This was to the manager of the Compliance department. I could immeditately here her typing away - presumambly to get onto MSE website!
She then seemed to drop the phone - presumably phone held between head & shoulders so she could type quicker!
Anyhow, she said they have won awards for their website but they are developing a new one anyway - due for release later this year!0 -
I have been with HL for years now and had good customer service from them:) .
I don't buy and sell shares but I have sold and bought funds through their web site which I have found to be as reliable as any other web site. True that if you sell funds online with them the sale proceeeds can take days to be available in order to reinvest in new funds. If you want to reinvest quickly then better to do it on the phone as a sale on day 1 can then but reinvested on day 2, once the funds closing price for day 1 sale is confirmed.
I had no problem with entering my postcode to find my address on their site.
When I have asked HL questions online I have usually had replies within 48 hours.
blinko - You don't need to be referred to open an account with them that I know of but do you know something I don't?Regards

Yes, they did say I could do this. But it would be nice that you could do this online. Maybe their new website will incorporate this.erb wrote:If you want to reinvest quickly then better to do it on the phone as a sale on day 1 can then but reinvested on day 2, once the funds closing price for day 1 sale is confirmed.
Seems that there is a problem using this feature with Mozilla Firefox.erb wrote:I had no problem with entering my postcode to find my address on their site.
Judging by a PM I got from Blinko, I think he is hoping for some referral cash!erb wrote:blinko - You don't need to be referred to open an account with them that I know of but do you know something I don't?0 -
