I am in IT/Telecomm job and thinking about moving to Reading as I am already almost priced out of my south London/Surrey area which I live in. I guess job opportunities in Reading in my area will be plenty too. I just would like to hear from any forummers who are from Reading and around or been to Reading about living quality, house prices etc. I know it won't be much different to London but a small difference would help. Any particular nice areas / nasty areas ? Any comments would highly be appreciated.
If i had known then what I know now!

I suspect house prices might not be that much different in Reading and surrounding area compared with Surrey. Try visiting the websites for a few local estate agents such as Romans and Prospects, to get any idea of what's available in your price range. Wokingham area is quite nice, Henley is up-market, but expensive. Avoid Whitleywood (sorry if you live there)."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

agreed about Whitelywood
Lower Earley is not bad but you do get the ineviteable traffic jams around rush-hour, same with Winnersh as well.
Other Agents locally are Roger Platts and Whiteknights0 -
Hi...I live in Reading and also agree about Whitleywood and the Oxford Road area...not as nice as other areas of the town...but are cheaper as a result. I live in Lower Earley which has really easy access to the motorway if you need it for commuting. Similarly, Woodley and Winnersh are areas with good access to the motorway too. Prices can be high depending on the area you are looking at. I've lived in Reading for the last 2 years and like it. Good town centre and easy to get into London when you want to. I'd imagine there would be plently of job opportunities for you in the area with the amount of relevant companies based in the area....I work for a telecoms company myself. If you want any particular advice drop me a PM.0
