Scottish Power - Beware

I am currently with Scottish Power (White Meter Standarad Variable d/d - prompt payment quarterly in arrears). I thought I'd investigate the savings by paying monthly d/d. Spoke to customer advisor who asked me for my current meter readings which I gave her. She then quoted me £55 per month which I though was a bit steep. She told me she could make the changes there and then but I would have to be billed up to date. I told her I wanted to think about it.

Two days later I receieved a bill for the last 2 months, almost 5 weeks before my next quarterly bill is due!!!.
Spoke to their billing department who said there's nothing they can do, I should have been informed that entering meter readings on the system would result in a bill being issued!

Have spoken to customer services who "say" they should be able to cancel this "intermediate" bill.

Surely this is sharp practice and maybe outside the DD agreement?
Any thoughts?

Incompetent by the agent you spoke to maybe, but it's not outside the DD agreement - they have given you written notice in advance they intend to take a payment which is all that is required.
  • Ask them to rebill you to the readings on your last bill and the same date. Should amend your balance back to zero and then your next bill will come on time.
