Cat food for my pensioner with poorly gums.

My 18 yr old kitty is having problems with her gums/teeth (I'm suspecting). She had to have a tooth out about 2 years ago & she has very recently started to have problems again.
I know they are bothering her as she struggles to eat even foods she normally can't resist.
I do intend to take her to the vets this coming week, but can anyone recommend an everyday food I could feed her which is soft & easy to eat?

I must admit when one of my cats had a similar problem I whizzed her food up with a blender and a drop of water - she managed fine with that.0

Well you can't get softer than some of those Pate tins... can't remember who makes them but they are a mousse like consistancy.. hopefully once she gets to the vet and is no longer in pain she'll be fine. I have a 21yr old with hardly any teeth left now and she manages fine on all sorts , she even manages biscuits..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

My old dear Tabitha ended up with only four back teeth, poor thing. She would scoff anything and everything, and like Tanith's kitty she was happy to eat biscuits.
It may be the case that your cat will be better off without her teeth - unfortunately that involves an operation, but if they are hurting her then they are better out than in as they will not improve on their own.
In the meantime you could make her food a bit more sloppy by adding some warm water - not cold as that might be painful for her.0 -
Nellie likes Hi life pate tins made into a soup with warm water, she slurps that up very happily.:D0

Soak dry food in water before feeding. Mash the tinned food with a fork and add a little water.0

Sadly you have commercial cat food companies to blame im afraid. Cats were never designed to eat cooked meat with artifical colours and preservatives and those biscuits which your told help keep cats teeth clean tend to do the exact opposite and encourage tartar and bad teeth.
As suggested i would liquidize some cat food and maybe buy some frozen coley blocks from the freezer section in Tesco. They are handy portion sizes and can be cooked in the microwave in less than two minutes. The stronger smell will also keep your cat interested in eating.
Good luck

Ah it's been quite a lot of years since my kitty has eaten biscuits & I've never fed her a dry food diet.
I am trying the blended food & will buy some coley to try too. Although, have to becarefull not to over-feed fish.0
