Have just got a nice little second hand micra (52) reg which has a radio cassette. I have a cd player I would like to install - does anyone know how to do this as the garages have quoted me between £35 and £50!!! thanks.

You'll need a wiring adaptor (~£5 to £10) and possibly a fascia adaptor (£5 to £20) to make an aftermarket player fit. Apart from that I don't know without seeing it but I'm sure someone will be able to help
If they can do it for £35 I'd just let them, TBH. It can be a complete pain even if you're experienced (I've changed a few in my time and it's still a pain on some cars)0 -

I fitted a Sony CD player to a 2000 micra and it was a doddle. Look online for some guides, its just a case of removing some screws from the facia and it comes off, watch though as there are 2 I think which are relatively well hidden.
Cant remember if it required an adapter, I dont think so.0 -
check out autoleads catalog http://www.autoleads.co.uk/ it will list things you need and things you dont.
like the vauxhauls sometimes they put a hex head grub screws into the holes to block quick removal, removing them and then using the din pins known as keys will be easy there after. it will need a harness adaptor and possibly an aeriel adaptor depending on the fitment.0 -
according to this (HU = Head Unit , the old stereo)
http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/4356-Nissan-Micra-K11-Stereo-Removal-Install?
To remove a K11 HU:
1. First of all remove ash tray from Centre console.
2. Remove screws: Two are located above the HU, the others can be found where the ash tray was located prior to removal.
3. Pull off cover from centre console.
4. Remove the screws from the brackets holding the stock HU.
5. Remove plugs from back of radio.
For fitting a new HU to a K11:
1. You will need a wiring harness adaptor. Halfords do one, think it's the one that's also for the Ford Maverick.
2. You will need a bayonet adaptor for the aerial.
3. Install cage for HU in the slot.
4. Install wiring harness into car's wiring loom by plugging the two set of plugs together.
5. This step can be skipped but is better if you don't. Find a suitable point to install a seperate earth to the chassis, as Nissan don't have one. This can be patched into the harness.
6. Plug harness adapter into HU and aerial into HU.
7. HU should now work when ignition is on.Ex forum ambassador

Won't a 52 reg be a K12 ?0

If it is a K11 it is a doddle to do yourself, a few screws and it is out. A K12 will take a good hour tearing the dash apart. http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/449-How-to-change-stereo-on-a-Nissan-Micra-K12-With-Pics!?0

Also make sure your new radio has the bolt holes in the side for Japanese-style radio mounts, not all of them do. Probably safest to buy a Japanese brand.
I have to ask though, why go for a CD player when you can get some fairly cheap ones that use USB/iPod/SD instead. Just something to think about.0
