Voluntary redundancy - JSA and NI credits?

Hello there,

I'm taking voluntary redundancy from my job. My employers are offering an amazing package which will allow me to be off work with my children for between 2 and 5 years. :T

Now obviously I have no intention of working for at least 12-18 months, but I understand I would be entitled to 2 lots of 6 months of contribution based JSA in 2011 and 2012. I don't really need the £60 a week (I'll take them if I have to), but I would like the NI credits towards my state pension. Is there any way to do that? I don't want to jump through hoops pretending to look for work, but have paid a lot in taxes over the last 15 years and would at least like to protect my NI conts. :o

Any advice welcomed!

HR depts aren't generally trained up in benefit matters (I should know, I've worked in one for almost 20 years!). Ditto lawyers (my father is one).

Perhaps I've posted this in the wrong part of the forum. Should this be in the benefits section?

If your concern is to receive the NI credits, then I believe that taking time out to look after children entitles you to these credits. You don't have to be registered as unemployed.

Registering as unemployed would indeed require you to be actively seeking work and you don't want to do that at the moment.
