My lawn's full of dandelions too. I just mow it - it's all green. :D

I have seen dandelion removal tools, that cut the 'lion out in a nice neat plug. I appreciate this means you'd have holes all over the place, but it'd soon recover, I think.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

As mentioned it will chop up all the weeds and each cutting will sprout a new weed. Ideal to get rid
of all the grass and grow a weed lawn.

Hard work as well, Not like pushing a lightweight mower around. Buried rubbish could damage the machine
    or the operator.

    Gravel the whole area?

Is it just the lawn you want sorting out? My parents front lawn had got very weedy and looked awful. I asked around and got some good recommendations for GreenThumb so gave them a try and the difference has been very impressive. I don't think it costs any more than buying the feed and weed stuff ourselves but what they use works really well - even the first application made a huge difference.

I don't have any connection with GreenThumb and there are other companies that offer the same kind of service - I expect they're all much the same.

The other thing to do with the lawn is not to cut it too short. Scalping the grass leaves more open soil for the weeds to grow.
