I get the freeview channels so I don't get things like E4 or more4 but I found that I rarely watched anything other than BBC or ITV so that is why I got rid of Sky.
With regard to paying to have the facility, unfortunately I do not have the £100 in my pocket to go out and buy a hard drive recorder and if you want one that is anything like as good as the Sky one than they are a lot more than £100. Sky+ does not just record but I can set series link so I can follow a soap or particular programme and I am not tied to setting the DVD recorder every day, I can also watch another channel while DH is recording something. For me this is my one luxury and I pay for this instead of going out or smoking or drinking!

You can get quality on the cheap these days. Its called Ebay. My got father got a DVD copier with built in 160GB hard drive for just over £100 I think it is a Panasonic. And it allows to to do everything SKY+ can. You can set it up to record Corrie every Monday, Wed etc etc and just leave it like that.

I don't have £100 either to buy from ebay or otherwise. As other OP says - it is my one luxury. I don't drink, smoke, pay my gym subs or even eat very much these days. Maybe in ten months time I will buy myself a hard drive (or whatever it is) but at the moment I can't. And I have been with sky for years so it is not a case of having to wait another six months. I got the six months at half price because their service was lousy and I wanted to leave then. It is only recently that I have become aware of a free view service with SKy - however, I did think that if you still have your viewing card inserted, even though you don't pay a sub you can still get E4 etc.

You are tied in for a year with Sky, but you can downgrade to the minimum package for the remaining 6 months and that still counts.

Read the post above. No longer in the contract

  • I don't know if its a fluke but as I said earlier my Sky+ still works & I don't pay Sky anything. They told me I'd have to pay to use it as anything more than a free to air receiver & I decided against it but a few months after I decided to see what would happen if I tried to record with it & it worked. I can also do series links.

I believe that Nemisis_WOF, pennylane99 and Xbigman are correct. Although Sammy115 has been a SKY customer for years, when they agreed to the six months half price subscription, they would have had to agree to a new 12 month contract (similar if you upgrade a mobile phone); therefore, they cannot leave SKY without having to pay for the unused subscription. Sammy115's best bet is to call SKY and ask to be downgraded to the lowest package to minimise this cost.

  • I do beleive the 6 months would be an extra contract for 12 months, they are very sneeky with this...they may not have made it clear. I would email them unless you fancy waiting on the phone for 1/2 an hour like I have done before!

I cancelled sky after my sky+ stopped working, they are awful IMO but not as bad as the other options IMO. My sky+ still works but only if you are watching the same channel, you can rewind etc.

    Double check it just incase...
