FD customer becomign self-employed in Jan07 - best account?

Hi all,
In Jan07 I will become self-employed so may not meet FD £1,500 criteria (I don't meet it now, but I have other products). I will continue with e-savings, c/card etc but wondered if I should open an account with A&L or Nationwide or Halifax?
I need a lower monthly paying-in threshold and would also like a better interest rate. Obviously A&L gives me cashback via Quidco or referral, but I have heard bad customer service and bad online banking tales.
Any advice much appreciated :T - even if you think I should just stick with FD, but whilst I have the credit rating and can say I am still employed, I wonder if I should 'strike whilst the iron is hot' and open another account as it may be much harder when I get my P60...
