Are the switching site accurate?

Hi, I have a query about the switching websites. I am currently on an online dual fuel tariff with EDF paid by monthly DD. I have been to the 4 main switching sites but they all give a different amount of savings ranging from minus £47 (which isn’t a saving if I’m reading it right), to £173, though they all recommend British Gas, even the minus result.

How can I tell if these results are accurate?

Make sure you enter your postcode, annual consumption in Kwh, and current tariffs in accurately then you should get comparable results.

Who are the default suppliers for your area?

Put their details in and choose the standard tariff and your yearly consumption in kWhs.

You should get the same answer every time.

You are probably using monthly DD amounts, not annual kWh consumption. The former has to be converted to actual consumption, and different sites use different assumptions, hence the variation.
Always enter your annual kWh consumption.

Thx a lot. I did take the easy option of using my monthly DD figure. Will do as suggested and use kWh instead.

    Thx again.

Also IGNORE the saving figures. Look at the actual amount it says you will pay and compare this to what you paid over the last 12 months (actual not DDs). This is especially important if you are on a tariff that is ending in the next few weeks as the sites make assumptions about the tariff it thinks you will move onto.

Make sure to you give an accurate reading by calling your supplier and asking them what your annual usage is. Websites like these are always confusing because suppliers have so many tariffs and they keep changing the goal posts. What I would do is tell your supplier you are thinking of leaving and they may recommend a better tariff for you based on your consumption patterns.:)
