I'm completing on my first home today, should be any time now, i'm trying to draw up a list of things to do when i go into the house for the first time, so far i've got this:
Read Electricity meter
Read Gas meter
Phone British gas and set up account for both above
Phone water board and set up account
Inspect property and make note of unwanted items left by previous owner
Clean
Check phone line (due to be connected this afternoon)
Is there anything else to do on your first day in?

Don't just sign up with the incumbant supplier for gas and electricity, shop around for the best price.
Apart from the things you just listed, you'll be OK on the first day.
A little later check you know where the fuse board and stopcock is, as one you might need to find in the dark, and one in a hurry!0 -

Is there anything else to do on your first day in? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I've just tried to do the british gas sign up online and get quidco, but it keeps dying when i enter my previous addresses. I can't find any water companies (thames water, three valleys water) on quidco.
I did get 80 quid from Zurich (on quidco) for house insurance, was well impressed as now that puts home/building insurance at < 200 for the year!0 -

Change lock barrels.
Look up local takeaway in phonebook/online in advance if new to area.
Put up a pair of curtains to stop nosy neighbours, so you can sleep later than daybreak.
Say hello to nosy neighbours0 -
and crack open the champers and get drunk:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Sadly the champers is packed, the free wifi is arriving on friday (perk of working in IT) and we're not changing locks. I'll probably change the front door completely when we put double glazing in and i'll change them then.
Playing with uswitch, i've worked out there's 2 suppliers of water in our area and one is 30 quid cheaper per year. I've noted down the number and i'll give them a bell later on, same with the gas/leccy.
My sol just rang, we've completed, i'm now in 180k debt, yay!0 -

Stand in the back garden in earshot of nosy neighbour and say 'do you think all 10 chickens and the cockrel will fit in here as well as the goat?'0
