I changed my buildings & contents insurance to HSBC as they were very competive in October. Now, I have just received a letter asking me for a copy of my exising renewal documents with Halifax and I cannot find the documents and if I do not send it. I will pay £293.22 instead of £101. I am a bit panicky, I think I have thrown it away. A big difference, anything I can do. Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't panic at all. Get on https://www.quidco.com and see just how much cashback some of the big insurance companies are willing to pay you for your custom. Barclays leads the way with £125 but others include LloydsTSB at £120 and Zurich at £80. Get a few quotes and see how much you could save then tell HSBC to cancel the policy. I'd be very surprised if you ended up paying more than £101 net with the cashback (I went with LloydsTSB for buildings and Barclays for contents, £245 cashback meaning a net charge for my home insurance of £4!). They are actually paying my father £60 for the privilege of insuring his home this year!
