Hi,

I need a parking permit for residental purposes. Now it says vehicle regsitration document and car insurance must be both same name. Problem I have is the vehicle registration docuement is under my mine and car insurance is under my dads name and i am 2nd driver. Would the council still reject this on this basis when getting a parknig permit?

Clearly, with the things being in different names you are not fulfilling their criteria.

No-one on this forum is going to know the answer to your question, are they?

You haven't even told us which council.

Suggest you ring the council and explain your situation and ask them if it's ok.

Why does your dad drive your car more often than you and has he informed his insurance company that he is not the registered keeper of the vehicle?

    Beat me to it.

If you are the main driver then what you are doing is known as fronting - fraud.

This sounds like 'fronting,' it is illegal for your father to insure the car as the main driver and have you as a named driver if this is your car and you are the main driver, if you are not sure what fronting is then google it.

If that is the case and you are involved in an accident and your insurance find out they can refuse to pay out and cancel the policy.

We did inform the insurance company the vehicle is registered to me but my dad uses the car more than myself they didn't state it was a problem so thats why I didn't change the names over.

That's because it gives them a get out clause if you do have an accident.

"oh sorry sir but we determine that your fronting, so we're not going to cover you"

They see it as getting free money with no risk of having to pay out.
But of course if an accident was someone else's fault they'd be on your side all the way, because they'd be making money from the claim.

Actually I googled the term and it appears its not fronting.

Fronting - "when anyone other than the main driver is wrongly declared to be the policyholder when securing their car insurance."

My dad is the main driver and is the policy holder. I purchased the car thats why it is under my name but I dont use the car except occasionly.

Does your dad have a car himself?

It's a difference which is hard to prove unfortunately :(
