Cheap International Texts

Hi All

I was wondering if any of you could please give me some advice about the cheapest way to text abroad from the UK? My partner will be in Canada for 6 months and we text quite a bit - I have an iPhone 4 and most often use Skype to send messages, but sometimes there is no internet connection so I was wondering if there are any alternatives than normal texting (which is expensive)?

    fishtext.com for texting from UK - still requires internet connection but cheapest I know.

    Does anyone know of a cheap SIM/PAYG deal to be able to do this too? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    With http://giffgaff.com/ you get unlimited internet and 250 minutes for £10 monthly topup.

    You don't need 'unlimited' for texting really. AFAIK internet is 20p per day without a minimum topup.

    But come on, giffgaff? :rotfl:

    Failing that buy a cheap smart phone, unlock it and buy a sim only in canada to e-mail each other.

    At the end of the day if you cant get a signal for internet on your phone then youre unlikely to be able to send a text anyway.
