I am sure that somewhere on these boards this topic is covered.
But thanks to all you MSE people i know the washing machine problem is bad budgeting!!!!
But ...
Is it psychological that everything seems to conspire to drag you off track?
Conspiracy or enemy action?
Given how literate and witty everone on here seems to be I hope shortly to have and anawer and some killer tales.

I know exactly what you mean! Without fail, as soon as I try to get a grip with myself and my finances, something, usually several somethings, happen, and all my good intentions lay scattered along the highway of life. I haven't worked out why but I usually call it s**'s law!
No witty answers to this phenomenen, but just wanted you to know you are not alone.0 -
Tell me about it, I was getting to grips at the back end of last year then was made homeless. I then incurred all the associated costs of moving and starting with nothing. I finally got near to being sorted and then the car died a death, infact it even ran me over (long story but basically a small punto parked on my drive with an incline, in my wisdom I decided to get it off the drive and i slipped on some moss, needless to say the thing ran me down, I sent it to the scrap yard the very next day :PTOTAL AT START £13606.90 27/03/2018
TOTAL CURRENT £13445.90 29/03/20180 -

downnotout the car tale is great and a superb metaphor for what always seems to happen to me, i seem to run over by my own spending!

Whatever you do, don't let it derail you!! (if a dead washing machine can derail you?!?)
You know; thinking, "Oh sod it, I am never going to get my budget right, so may as well have a bottle of wine and a takeaway now!".
Just look the washing machine in the eye (!) and tell it - you are not going to beat me!!
It's sods law.
Good luck

Hi have a look on freecycle or better still put a request on there for a washing machine. Better looking for a free one than adding to your debt.0

Is the washing machine really "dead" or does it just need a bit of TLC?
If it hasn't been looked at already, check out your local paper and see if there is a washing machine repair man advertising in there. One of my old machines lasted for 8 years with a couple of repairs costing just £25 each!
I do know what it's like. We've had to replace our telly, shed and we're saving for a new boilerNo chance of a weekend away, new clothes or a meal out for us at the moment. The highlight of our week is 2 for 1 pizza deals at the supermarket. Still, it's not all bad news. My sister is clearing out her wardrobe so I will get all of her cast-offs, some of which have never even been worn. Sadly, she is a completely different shape to me so if you see a woman walking down the road in a badly-fitting, brand new outfit, chances are that it's me! :rotfl:

thanks bib I'm already noted for being totally mad,but it really is the most wonderful image.LOL
any way off to use my psi powers on the bl*sted thing:rotfl:
what i really need is a self righting (mental) wobbly man to get back on track! or perhaps a real one so i could kick it and it would self right to prove how totally pointless it is to get derailed.

These two things in your thread title may be indeed be linked, getagrip ... I just fixed my 10 year old Hoover washing machine last month that certainly did a very fine impression of dying on me ... oh the noise - horrible grating sounds and then it seemed to be choking on its own outflow
It's a bit heavy to pull out from under, I know, but once you've unplugged it with a simple screwdriver and a pair of molegrips you might be able to give it the kiss of life ...
In the pump of mine I found a very shiny penny and the remains of a chewed up credit card :rotfl:
It was right as rain after I removed the bits :money:0 -
My washer/dryers always having to be fixed. I will never buy a hotpoint one again, although there washing machines have been fine. My next one will be Bosch, or Miele.0
