Why do you think I should speak to another debt agency, do you not think I should go with br if I've been recommended the iva?
Obviously I will be speaking to them again before going to the court to get updated information, but do you think br is better than the iva?
I'm getting a bit confused now

No not at all, your misunderstanding me, quite the opposite. We do recommend people to often try 2 Debt charities and then weigh up your options."If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

Ok thanks will do, I'll be making an appointment next week.
Thanks for all the advice so far.0 -
Thanks for the help everyone, I think I'll be on here a fair bit over the next few months.
Can you let me know how I get the process started, I know I have to fill out forms but are they available online and do I have to make a date with the court when I take them in or can I do it in advance?
I would recommend having a look at the forms, making sure you can fill most of it in etc, then calling the court for an appointment. I say this because when I called I got an appointment for the following week - and I live in a big city. Anyway well done for tackling this, I know how hard it is - but you're in the best place. I'd probably still be in despair if I hadn't read the advice on here.
I only went br a few weeks back so it's still quite raw. I spoke to national debt line and they just went through my options - the final decision was mine. When I went to court, the (very nice) judge just asked if I understood the implications of br - which I did, and agreed that it was my only real option.
Anyway all the best to you, If I can help at all, just ask. When you're going through hell, keep going...0 -

Thanks for the advice, I'll certainly be looking at the forms to get an understanding. Did you find them straight forward enough to fill them out?
And if you don't mind me asking, have you had an appointment with the or yet? If so how did you find that, are they friendly people? Were you shocked or surprised at the amount you'll be paying over the next 3 years?
Speaking of which, after the court date how long is it before you get the appointment with the or and start paying? I'd like to get this all started ASAP so I can start getting on with my life.0 -
OR offices are very busy at the moment. Some members have had their OR interview quite quickly, within a week of going BR I believe, I've had to wait a bit longer. My OR interview is just over 3 weeks from BR date and I couldn't get it brought forward either. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Plenty of help on here with the forms if you get stuck!

Hiya
Yes I found the forms pretty straight forward - I would say they were more time consuming than difficult. Obviously it's good to save a copy on your pc then just keep adjusting it. My or called the following day (after I went br) and arranged the interview for 6 days later so I guess I was lucky. Maybe my office has more staff? I live in Birmingham, but I know other people have to wait longer.
Sadly I'm on job seekers at the moment (I was made redundant which led to my br) so I don't think I'll have to pay anything until I get a job.
Hope this helps a little.When you're going through hell, keep going...0 -
Ps. Sorry yes forgot to say the or staff were very professional and friendly

I'm more worried about the or and how friendly and approachable they are.
Thanks for the information though, it's appreciated. I'll get started on the forms, arrange a session with a debt agency and hopefully make my appointment by the end of the month.0
