  • No they wont take this off the value. Each local authority have a set amount of discount now. Check you local council website for details

Ours is set at 26,000 off the market value of our home.

How long you have been in the property no longer counts

I would suggest that the improvements wil add to the value of the property, thereby increasing the price you will have to pay.

these changes were made hmmm a good 20 years ago lol and really need replacing anyway. been on direct gov and it still says about the length of time in the property but the max discount is 34K for us

  • The length of time in a property which gave a greater discount was stopped by Presscott

All council houses have a capped discount based on market value of home. Our council do not take into consideration any upgrading done by tenant.

Would what come off the value? His labour? The cost of putting right these 20 year old "repairs"? Did he get permission to do the work?
    Been away for a while.

Tenant's improvements which would add value have to be ignored for RTB valuations (unless the rules have changed in past 5 yrs). I would suggest that 20 yr old "improvements" would now add little if any value.

The discount is then deducted from the RTB value giving the amount the tenant would pay.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

No, they don't count towards the price, if the tenant paid for them.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
