Can I pay my kitchen fitter less than his quote?

Phone consumer direct and ask them for advice, they'll be able to tell you exactly where you stand legally and you can take it from there. The numbers 08454 04 05 06. Good luck.0

The way I see it I would get your husband to finish off the extractor if he can and wait until the fitter calls you back. Advise him you have his money but have deducted £200 to get the kitchen finished. If the fitter comes to do the extractor i'll bet you a fiver he'll tell you he was going to do the rest of it on the same day and its not his fault your husband did it!
All in all my guess is he'll probably accept £200 knocked off so he doesnt have to go back at all.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for your replies, well, I phoned the fitter last night, to confirm that he was still coming to finish the kitchen today and he told me that he could not come, but would come friday instead! I told him that Friday is unacceptable, as he told me the kitchen would be finished last Tuesday, and that I would be awilling to pay him £500 for the work done so far and my husband would finish the work. He started shouting at me saying that he was being ripped off and that he was going to ring my husband and give him a piece of his mind...BIG mistake!
Anyway, he rung my husband, and told him that he wasn't accepting £500, because he'd done most of the work and deserved to be paid full price, my husband listed all of the faults with the kitchen and that he knew we wanted the kitchen finished asap because we want to move in! The fitter continued shouting for a bit, and the the fitters girlfriend came onto the phone and told me husband that we had probably chipped the units ourselves to get money off (why anyone would do that to their own brand new kitchen is beyond me!?) anyway, long and short of it is, that the fitter and his girlfriend came to the hosue this morning, I am working all day, but fortunately my Mum was there as I am expecting a delivery today.
My husband was there this morning too, and he was so rude to them, he said none of the faults were his doing and that the problems were caused by Magnet and us!? He told my Mum that he is taking us to court - that's fine, I've got photographs of the work he did (or didnt do) and of all the faults, chips etc, plus he didn't give us a written quote when I asked for one numerous times, and he didn't finish the job he took on.
The thing that is worrying me is that he said he is coming back to take the kitchen out!? I know that he cannot enter my property without permission and that the kitchen is mine, he hasn't put any money into is, but can he legally take it out? because surely that would ruin the kitchen?! I don't want it taken out I want it finished!!
Anyway, he was sent packing with £500, I'm just waiting to see if he's getting back to us with a solicitor!! Any thoughts on where I stand?0 -

He has no legal right to remove your kitchen. If he breaks into your house and removes property that does not belong to him then that is burglary.
If you gave him a key for access when no-one was present at the property, change the locks.Anyway, he was sent packing with £500, I'm just waiting to see if he's getting back to us with a solicitor!! Any thoughts on where I stand?
You will have to wait and see how far he wants to pursue it. Good chance that when he calms down he'll forget about it and move on.
Worst case is he makes a claim in the small claims court which will be difficult for him to prove if what you say is true. Hang on to all the evidence you have. He has 6 years to make a claim before it is time barred.0
