Cost of diesel to increase dramatically?
Just been reading on another forum that the German press have been reporting an EU directive that would lead to increased duties amounting to 79cents/litre by 2013, in an effort to discourage the use of diesel vehicles in city centres.
Does anyone have any details on this, whether petrol engines are also covered and/or any other information?

79 euro cents? US cents? The duty on fuel is around that mark already. Who cares what they put it
upto we will all pay it or start walking.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Discouraging people from buying diesel cars for the shopping run or city driving can only be a good thing - there would need to be tax breaks for commercial users though.0

These stupid taxes only work for overcrowded cities like London, up here in Lincoln an electric car for 'going to the shops' in is no good for me, it's a 7 mile trip on a dual carriageway, why would I want to take my chances on that road in a 30mph crisp packet when Ive got trucks up my !!!!!?0

Try putting this stupid idea to the French they will riot, quite rightly too !! so should we.Ignore PPC Tickets, they are just begging letters0

Danny is right (I live near him and agree Lincoln surrounds would be a poor idea) but Lincoln City traffic speeds are probably slower than London!!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -

IIRC it is a minimum tax level on diesel they want to change. We're well in excess of that on diesel so has no affect on the UK0 -

The deal is, (and it seems this hasn't been passed yet) that diesel will be mandated to have a 17% higher duty than petrol.
So plugging the numbers into here:
http://www.whatgas.com/car-finance/fuel-duty.html
Petrol would presumably remain at £1.327, whereas diesel would increase by 12p/litre including VAT to £1.509 at today's rate. A differential of 14%.0 -
But diesel is better for the enviroment is it not? Argue that until the cows come home unless they die from
cancer caused by diesel soot.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
