Drama! Offer advice wanted!

We've finally found a house we like in a perfect location and great condition.
We went to see it this morning and they'd already had an offer of the full asking price but the vendor turned it down as they hadn't sold their house yet. After being shown around and leaving us to have a look the vendor then told us she'd been offered the asking price by another person who had sold their house but wanted them to move out in 3 weeks.
The vendor did say it was a ridicious timescale as she was pregnant and had two toddlers. We got the impression she didn't like that idea.
Anyway we called the EA and said that we'd offer full asking price, that we had sold and that we weren't insisting on any timescales as our buyer has a rented flat to put them on.
The EA said she'd tell them our situation, offer etc and check out our chain with our EA. She did say that they had more viewings today and that they would take into consideration offers they had but it might go to final offers.
The house is on the market for just short of £250k and we're not sure what to do regarding what to offer if it becomes this case.
Being emotionally involved it's hard to say whether to offer a lot more (we can stretch the £260 if we sort out the stamp duty issue one way or another) or not.
Advice please!!!

You're very very very very very unlikely to "sort out the stamp duty issue one way or another".

No idea what to say apart from that.

Right ok let's forget that comment shall we?
I'm asking people for their advice on a situation that's quite important to us at the moment so if you have anything constructive to say I'd be really grateful.

Personally I think you are being played like an old fiddle.

They are twiddling your knobs and cranking your shaft and you are asking for more.

You should offer €110 (sorry, I am too drunk to locate my android devices pound sign).

    Congratulations!
I'm genuinely wanting some advice on what to offer on a house
I have seen some helpful advice from a lot of people in the past regarding things like this so was hoping to get a response about that rather than someone just being snotty.

Thanks ruggedtoast. I have considered whether it was the EA trying to be sneaky. We have been looking in an area where there's not many houses coming up recently so not sure if there's just a lot of people wanting to buy and not enough houses.

Pastures is right though, if you go above the £250k you are in higher stamp duty territory and you do genuinely have little room for manouvre, particularly if you're going a whole £10k above.

Options, maybe: 1) wait longer and pay the full asking price. 2) ask them if they'd consider moving somewhere else for six months and pay their rent (if less than £10k). 3) pay extra and take a hit on the stamp duty. Stamp duty rules are now far more stringent as is the paper trail. ETA: 4) tell them you'll pay what you want to pay per RT's "you're being played like a fiddle" comment, though as you said, maybe not enough houses coming to market.

I would advise you to pay what the house is worth to you, if that doesn't exceed what you can realistically afford. We did that, and despite a better offer coming along, the vendor stayed with us because she believed we'd work to her timescale. She wasn't disappointed.
