How to check McAfee is running?

I'm in the process of setting up a new Dell Desktop - it came with a free
3-year McAfee package pre-installed (the full version, not a 90 day trial).

How do I confirm that the program is acually running? If I open it up it says it is; however my other computer (with Zonealarm) gives a visual indication without having to open it up.

With McAfee there sometimes seems to be an icon in the System Tray(?) in the bottom right of the screen, but not always.

Easiest way to test any anti-virus package is to use the EICAR test virus.

This virus is entirely OK to download. Don't take my word for it, you don't know me! So read this:

Then download the test file from here:

http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com.txt

If your anti-virus is working you should get a virus alert (DON'T PANIC) saying it has found EICAR test virus.

IF you don't get an alert, it's not working.....
