    Sainsburys 12 for £1.50.
No gas, lecky costs no washing up no waiting around!!:j

Homemade would be a fraction of that maybe around 50p for the 12, but that aside no shop bought are a patch tastewise on homemade straight from the oven freshly baked mmm, plus with homemade you know exactly what ingredients are in it. Plus if you set off now to get yours from sainsburys I guarantee (unless you live in s car park lol), I could get a batch freshly baked and out ready to eat before you were back.

I have and sometimes will again bought shop stuff "ready" made for convienence, but for me OS is about making things yourself, not to mention the pleasure of baking and those wonderful aromas from the kitchen nomnom.

I made 4 dozen of these the other day & 2 dozen jam tarts, thought that would be fine as DP doesn't eat mince pies. Well that's what he said. There's only a dozen left:eek: and he only hasn't eaten them 'cos they're hidden in the bottom of the freezer:D He actually said the other night "I'm looking forward to going to bed tonight" thought I was on a promise:o he then said "nice cup of coffee & a mince pie:mad:"

Just took a batch out of the oven. Got 38 full mince pies and 24 mini open ones with star pastry top. As always they are brilliant.

I really thought I had made an error today, as the pastry had to sit for a while whilst I sorted my 6 month old DD out, but it was absolutley fine.

I have a tray of mince pies using the recipe at the beginning of the thread :) They are in the oven right now :D

(I used half quantity but instead of 4oz Trex - I used 3oz Trex and 1oz grated butter)

I've always used Trex for my pastry (Trex, flour & water) but didn't risk using the OP recipe for my Christmas mince pies.
However, I had some mincemeat left over, so decided to try the pastry today.
It is nice and crumbly, although much too sweet for me.
I wonder if the recipe would work if I left the sugar out.

You are right, this made the loveliest mince pies pastry, it was so good. Today I am making little apple pies with this pastry to give away as first footing pressies, if they don't get eaten first by us, haha. Thank you so much for sharing

I don't usually like mince pies, as the pastry is usually too stodgy. But decided to give this recipe a whirl this year and they turned out brilliantly :j
I halved the amounts apart from egg and made 24 delish mince pies.
 Many thanks to OP for this recipe
