If I want to make savory pastry to make mini quiches, do I simply leave out the sugar? I don't need to add anything else in to make up the weight do I?

I would leave out the sugar and add some salt, then see how "wet" the pastry is. You may need to add a bit more flour, but I always make my pastry wettish anyway as it picks up extra flour from the rolling pin, board etc whilst being rolled out.

Going to try this rec this week for a change, as we eat all the last lot of pies I made with my usual pastry.

I cannot get Trex for love nor money, I desparately want to make these to finish of my hampers. I did pick up a block of crisp n dry vegetable oil  don't laugh but do you think I could use this or is this for frying only??? Sorry I feel so daft asking this but don't want to waste them

I make good shortbread biscuits, cakes etc but have never tried my own pastry or Trex in any of my recipes.

Thanks researcher for the recipe, I will be thinking of the lady who passed this on to you as I have read the thread from the start, hopefully it is comforting to know that there will be hundreds of people using her mince pie recipe this year again :T

I had some trex delivered last night in my ocado order.... so waitrose must still have some
  • My mum has asked me to get some Trex as she can't get any near her either, she has always used it and never had any trouble buying it before.

She asked at her local sainsburys and was told it's not being stocked for the time being - but it may be stocked again after Christmas .

My local Tesco's are still selling it though.

    Asds sell trex as well

Just made mine and tried one
they are the best I have ever tasted
typical me I have ran out of mincemeat
and only have about fifteen finished.
Still I have cut out the bottoms and
tops and will finish off when I get back
    from the shops.
I used the Sainsburys organic mincemeat
its really nice if anyone is wondering what its
like £1.49 a jar it was the cheapest in our
Sainsburys as they did not have a lot of stock.

I noticed that cooking time was 20/25 mins
I have a fan assisted oven so these only
took aprox 15 mins to cook so depending
on your oven it may be quicker to bake
    than your expecting,worth keeping an
eye on them in the oven
