Well, Waitrose have just opened their second store over here in Guernsey.
The first one opened in early March and the second on Thursday.
I popped into the first one last Saturday at 5 and it was heaving, today, it wasn't as busy at 10am which will be due to the second shop opening.
I thought I would do a shop in there and spent £200!!!
This amount didn't contain any cleaning stuff/toiletries etc but definately didn't contain anything like Steak (unfortunately)
Whilst some of the food will last into next week, I am totally gobsmacked when I saw the amounts being added up on the till as she put it through!
I definately won't be going back there again - will have to try the Co-op instead

Did you look at the prices as you loaded your trolley? I always mentally add it up as I go around, and if I couldn't manage that I'd take a calculator.0

Nope - didn't do that.
It was the first time shopping there and the choice was amazing (to what we are used to), so prices didn't come into it really.
But won't ge going there for a weekly shop again, just some bits that I found nice.0 -
Waitrose is good quality but mega expensive always has been.0

Do they not have quick check there? We have Quick Check in our store and its fab, tells you how much you're spending as you go along.
I find Waitrose great if you shop carefully, you do pay for quality0 -
We do use Waitrose for certain things. Some of their Essentials range of products are cheaper than our usual supermarket. In fact, when I went in there the other week, I noticed their lentils were actually cheaper than what I've sometimes paid in Lidl. it depends what you buy. We set a budget for the month so know what we've got to spend. If we didn't do that, we could probably go into shopping overdrive anywhere, but especially Waitrose!2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Have to say £200 in Waitrose doesn't surprize me at all. I like their soups but everything else I get from elsewhere, either the quality isn't how I want it (find this alot with apples) or its just too expensive. I understand their ethos but sorry, me paying off my debts is coming first at the moment!
OP, just for comparisons sake, what does your normal shop cost?0 -

This is the problem when people do a big shop, they get carried away. Prices may not come into it in the beginning as their trolley fills up, but they sure as do at the end, when the till spits out the receipt. An expensive lesson. If you can afford £200 all well and good, go for it, but if not, add it up as you go round. Waitrose is far too expensive for me, but I can understand that you wanted to try a new shop out.
IlonaI love skip diving.

I prefer Sainsburys, but I live just down the road from a large Waitrose so it's almost inevitable I'll end up doing some shopping there as it's convenient. It doesn't have to be expensive, but I do make more effort there to shop within my budget.
It's worth checking the offers on their web site occasionally as there are some bargains. As for everyday things like a bottle of milk or some eggs, they're about the same as any other supermarket, so hopefully you'll find the new store useful.0 -
My nearest supermarket is a waitrose, just in walking distance (blow me Ben, are you a neighbour?:)).
I often go down just to get a loaf or something and end up coming out with a £70 bill. Their stuff is SO nice its hard to resist. I have noticed in the last 6 months or so that they are doing a lot more offers and two for ones and so on. I mooch round now picking up all the two for ones and other bargains and try to control myself over the other lovely stuff on offer. In ours you can pick up a calculator thingy at the door to use as you go round.0 -
I LOVE Waitrose, much prefer it to Sainsburys. Fortunately, my local Waitrose has no car-park, so I'm not tempted to do my big shop there. Just one or two bits and pieces I can't get in other shops. However, I did manage to get my half-price chicken there yesterday. Jolly good too.0
