Primus activation

Does anyone know how long it takes until Primus activate a phone line that BT Openreach has just installed?
I had BT Openreach install the line yesterday morning, and the engineer said I should get a dialling tone within about 20 minutes.
A few hours later I hadn't got one and called Primus to be assured I would have one by the afternoon.
In the evening I called back and was told I was guaranteed I would get a dialling tone by first thing tomorrow morning.
When I called this morning I was told I would 'definitely' get a dialling tone by tonight.
They cant tell me what the 'activation process' actually involves, but it does include something about an engineer and the exchange. I notice my old Virgin Media line no longer works so something must have happened.
Anyone else had a similar experience?

Activation is done by BT OR, not Primus.
Your old VM cable service is irrelevant, as it is a completely separate network. No free lunch, and no free laptop

even if I'm keeping the phone number?
Either way, it's now been 48 hours since the line was installed and I still dont have a dialling tone. I've rung Primus 6 times and have effectively been given 6 different excuses and 6 different promises as to when I'll get a dialling tone, all of which have turned out not to be true, and I've been told three times I'll be getting a call back, and so far have had none.0 -
Yes, BT OR do all the actual work on the line, regardless of whom you pay line rental to.No free lunch, and no free laptop
