We have been using Hotpoint appliances for many years. Never had one let us down yet. This includes dishwasher, large upright freezer, small larder fridge and washing machine.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • I'm also not impressed by frost free fridge freezers. I bought a Zanussi model recommended as a best buy by Which? magazine. I had to call out an engineer twice in less than two years because the freezer was full of frost so much so that the ice stopped the fan working. I complained to Zanussi and they said you really should defrost them once a year to avoid trouble. The engineer who did the repair said the same thing. May be I'm missing something but I thought the whole point is it's supposed to be frost FREE..............???!!!!

Has anyone had experience with the Daewoo brand?

Went with the kids to currys to have a look at the fridges available and what it looks inside so we can finalise on a model or two and find a good buy on the internet. The kids fell in love with this one...

they insisted on one with a water dispenser but i said no
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Behind the panel of the frost free freezer is the heating element which defrosts the ice, I was told its a design fault(engineers opinion) that the element is posistioned to high and the water refreezes before it runs out in the bottom and evaporates. You can bend the heating element down lower nearer to the drainage channel on a freezer than keeps "icing up" as a bodge solution.
  • Daewoo generally get good reviews but are frequently said to have quite noisy motors & on some models the door seals tend to stick meaning children in particular can struggle to open them.

I have a Bosch A rated frost free fridge freezer which is about 16 years old & still working just as efficiently as when it was new, the door seals will need replacing in the next year or so as they are just starting to wear down but other than that there has been no need for any maintenance/repairs.

We're on our second frost free fridge freezer, no going back for me.... the last one we had was a Samsung, this one is a Hotpoint, the one with the convex ashaped doors - lets you have extra space in the doors without going up in width. No problems with it.

I've got a frost free freezer which (cross fingers, touch wood etc) has yet to give me any trouble. However, I wouldn't buy frost free again because I don't like what it does to the food inside. It dehydrates the food quite quickly and I've ended up throwing quite a lot of stuff away before I could use it because of this. Even stuff like ice cream in a sealed container gets dried out. And I get dehydrated ice cubes if I don't use them fast enough!
