Boiler Pressure level question

Hi
The pressure level on my Saunier Duval Combitek boiler has been showing between 3 and 4 for the last month. I have not noticed any problems with the hot water or central heating.
Is there anything I can do to bring the level down as I guess its not safe at that level?

    Hi,

Boiler pressure should be between 1 and 1.5 bar. It should not drop below 0.5 or rise above 2.5.
You could "bleed" one of the rads, this should lower the pressure to the level you want.

    Hope this helps!

Are you sure you are reading it right?

    Between 3 and 4 bar??

If so I would expect the boiler would be throwing water out of the safety valve if the pressure was that high.

    Hi,

As said, if the pressure is that high the pressure relief valve would open at 3 bar.
If it hasn't then it needs looking at to find out why.
Some poorly informed person might have capped this valve because it was dripping.

How long have you lived with this boiler?

    GSR.

Had the boiler for over 10 years. Had to replace the pump once and that was 2 years ago.
There is a pipe that goes outside and i have noticed the wall damp. So I guess excess water must be going out. what does this mean and what can i do?
    Sorry for my ignorance

as per previous post you could try bleeding the radiators one by one, while the heating is OFF!! This will also release any pockets of air which might have accumulated.

If after you have bled the radiators the pressure still rises then you probably have a problem with the pressure vessel in the boiler, time to get a plumber in.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

It could be that the filling loop is open and raising the pressure.
The filling loop is usually located under the boiler and looks like a silver braided flexible pipe with either 1 or 2 quarter turn valves (similar to a wash mac valve)
Check that these valves are closed (handle at 90 degrees to the pipe)

You can release the pressure from the boiler but it's probably better for you to just bleed a rad rather than reaching inside the boiler casing, hot pipes and elec connections could give you a nasty surprise!
