sorry just need have a rant....
I was out walking my dog this evening on the way home we pass a house where a black cat is always sitting by the front door. My dog always stops and has a look (like dogs do). Now tonight the cat sauntered over for a closer look as we walked past. I paused for a moment as both cat and dog stared at each other (there was about 5m between them, my dog was on a short lead. My dog is a small terrier and was not aggressive towards the cat). We then we went on our merry way.
Then as I got a bit further down the road I could hear another dog behind, literally choking on the lead! His owner was yelling at me and accusing me of tormenting his cat:eek:
He then said if he let his dog off the lead it would kill my dog :eek:
At this time my dog started to bark and growl, while the other dog (a staffie) carried on choking itself as the man seemed to encourage it to be aggressive. I basically said I hadn't tormenting his cat at all and crossed the road and went a different way home. I was really quite worried.
I don't think I'll be walking that way again.
I'm really cross because I think I'm quite a responsible dog owner and have introduced my dog to the cats in the area, by always making her sit and I do not let her chase them.
rant over!

I would report the threat to the appropiate authorities, because if what he says is true then his dog needs to be removed, not the dogs fault, I expect he's picked up his owners bad attitude!0 -
I would put this incident out of your mind, the man was obviously a complete moron and not worth the upset it's obviously caused you.
If that is his cat and his dog is aggressive then he is putting his own cat at risk.
Horrid when things like this happen. Dont let it spoil your walking route.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

its not the nicest part of town!
It just makes me  though as its obviously ok for him to then torment me and my dog. Idiot!!!0 -
We have much the same problem with the humans next door to my mum. I cant and wont blame the dog after all its the bloody humans that made it act like it does.
I would change your route if they are anything like the lowlifes next door to mum they will watch out for you and make your walk unpleasant. As for reporting it, that's another waste of time, (tried and failed) That poor dog having owners that are morons.
A little tip for just in case, carry a a pot of pepper in your pocket, you need to be able to flick the lid off it with one hand. If you do encounter any problems with the moron and his dog use the pepper to give you time to either run into a garden and close the gate or pick up your wee girl up and get away ASAP. Also get used to carrying a walking stick with you, being safe is paramount to both yourself and youe dog. xxRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxxHe is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.0 -
What an idiot. Stupid people like this give dog owners a bad name.
Why should you change your route? Try to ignore him, just blank him if he speaks to you.
But if he threatens you again, speak to the police and tell them what he's been saying.0 -

With all due respect, what use is a walking stick going to be?0 -

Well having been attacked by a dog a few months ago I wish I had had a stick in my hand to fend off the dogs mouth from my dog. If you have ever had the mosfortune to be attacked by another dog whilst walking your own then any method of helping oneself is better than nothing. Same with the pepper, I carry both now.RIP TJ. You think a stick is going to repel a p1ssed off staffy??? *using staffy as an example as per the OP*0 -
It will either discourage another dog providing it is not already at full steam, if it is at full steam a whack to the testicles or a poke in the anus is probably going to make it think about its own defence rather than taking chunks out of another dog. Or alternatively stuffing the stick in it's mouth prvents it closing its jaws. It does depend on how dextrous and calm you are.0

You did nothing wrong! I let my on lead dog sniff at bolshy cats too! My pooch usually looses interest before the bolshy cat does!
Haven't read the whole thread
Poor staffie! Being encouraged to be aggressive, when they are actually very sweet dogs!
I bet the kitty was bemused.... and suddenly made themselves busy with some essential grooming!
Hope your pooch is ok. It infuriates me that 'owners' of a certain type seem to gravitate towards a certain type of dog, encourage them to be aggressive, and then its the breed of dog that gets the flack - not the 'owner'!
Grrrr at irresponsible staffie owners!!!:mad:I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
RIP POOCH 5/09/94 - 17/09/070
