Just an an incoming call from a female claiming to be from talkTalk, wanting to offer me a better deal. Now, we sighed up recently & got the best deal they were running at the time (including some heavy duty contact me by email only please) & the lady did not sound, um, credible.
I field telemarketers in work - and who isn't familiar with the polite, scripted, slightly desperate speed at which they talk?! This lass sounded like she was phoning after her 4th pint. So I apologised that it wasn't a convenient time &
hung up.
Googled the number, (which most telemarketers have hidden), of 08009886220, to find a lot of other folk had Bad Experiences from this number & so was seriously glad I gave out no information other than my name. Which she already had.
Offhand, if you get a call from this number, seems like caution is indicated. Based on nothing more than a gut instinct & a lot of Google yatter on the theme of Boo Hiss.

You apologised after they rang you on your private home number?? Just do what everyone else does and don't speak to them. As soon as you pick up the phone you can tell its a sales call so just hang up or is this not the norm?0 -
ALL telecommunications companies sell off customer details . . even if your ex-directory, allow they will obviously deny this. For what other reason could your number be called? Seems there is nothing we can do about it.
As previously said, just ignore it and put the phone down on them.0 -
Try quoting section 11 of the Data Protection Act at them?
That's what I did at TalkTalk, and they seem to have stopped.0
