Hi,
Does anyone know where i can get a lead paint testing kit from? as we have moved into a new home and was built in 1940's and have stripped wallpaper to reveal old paint and just want to make sure that it's not lead

If you are going to paint/paper/skim over it, I can't see it being a problem.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Lead paint will only be a problem if you to intend to eat it or breath it.
In any case it is only likely to be a problem for children and unborn babies.0 -
If the paint dates from the same period as the house then presumably it is likely to have lead in it. Not really a problem unless it is likely to ingested in some way.(Breathing or eating).I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I have an old wooden porch thats in need of stripping, rubbing, and repainting as the old paint is pealing off. Only problem is that it was painted pre-1960's and by the sounds of it theres a chance the paint contains lead.
Does anyone actually know at which of the DIY chains I can pick up a lead paint test kit? I obviously want to take proper precautions and maybe reconsider my options if its definitely got lead.
Many Thanks.0 -
My understanding was that it was only gloss type paint i.e. for wood and metal that may have contained lead pre 1960's and not emulsion type paint that OP would seem to have (under wallpaper). I could be wrong - google it, the govt has an advice page about it.
ZekeMonkey: I posted a query about this last week so know the answer!! You can use wet and dry sandpaper, wet. It must be wet so that it forms a saft paste rather than dangerous dust. When I do mine i'm going to wear a decent dust mask and keep the room well-ventilated as well.0 -
Unless you are pregnant or a child, lead paint is unlikely to be a problem. Apparently, it stunts growing brains.
