Posting Abroad

Hi, i've been selling stuff on eBay for almost a year now but as of yet i've always refused to post abroad.

However I often get people asking me if I will, and at the moment i'm selling a lot of clothes on eBay, and someone has asked me if i'll post to Latvia.

I've been on the Royal Mail website and i've worked out that it should be about £3.00 for standard air mail, but it's almost £8 for international signed for.
Which option would you recommend? And if I include international shipping on the listing will the buyer automatically pay this when the listing ends? I really have no clue how it works!

Thanks for any advice.

I've posted to Latvia several times with no problems. What is your item worth? If its low value then just go for standard airmail. You will be able to claim up to £46 (as long as you remember to get proof of postage) if it goes missing.
  • It's only got a starting bid of £5, and brand new it was only £30. Thanks for the help! I think i'll give it a go (:

I sell abroad all the time. The foreign bidders are usually better buyers than Brits !

I love foreign bidders, they keep my business nice and healthy.

If you deide to allow international postage then consider blocking some countries like Italy which have a very slow delivery service (many sellers do!). You'll soon learn which countries are quicker than others. I allow Latvia but block many countries such as Italy, Malta, Bulgaria etc which I've found slow and unreliable.

I would definitely go for the recorded signed for service. The buyers normally are happy to pay if its come with trackings.

I find the opposite, as so few sellers bother with airsure or international signed for it makes those that do stand out as very expensive. Looking different to other sellers can really hit a sellers stars.

It's not as though either service actually guarantee to track anyway, so it is a waste of money.

After around 5 years of selling on eBay we too have learned to block certain overseas countries due to slow and unreliable postal services leading to too many problems. This includes Italy, Russia, Bulgaria and Malta is looking like it is next to be added.

I agree that to offer International Signed for isnt worth it. Many buyers wont pay that much and your postage stars may suffer.
