Getting a new credit card?

Ive never had a credit card and would like to have one to build up a credit rating and to be able to pay for big things over a period of time. I dont think i have a credit rating as ive never brought anything on credit. Im good with my money and when i borrow from friends/family i pay within a week or latest a month.

Is it better to get one with my bank (hsbc) . Ive heard if a bank searches you and declines you it leaves a mark which they can then refuse to have you.

Thanks

Probably worth applying to HSBC as they have records of how responsibly you've managed your accounts.

If this fails then you can try other cards like barclaycard initial, capital one, aqua and vanquis.

I have learnt over the years that lenders have little confidence in people who are so good with money that they've never borrowed from a bank!
