Hi all just looking for some comments and opinions on a problem my mates having with his hyundai sante fey.Its a 2006 has 40,000 miles on it and he got it 2 years ago.problems started last year with a loud noise as he described it like grinding and catching from the rear.he took it back to the garage where he got it as it was (just )still under warranty.they had it 3 days and told him it was fixed and it was the diff lock causing the problem and they had replaced it.he took it away and about 3600 miles later same noise.back to garage this time he had to argue as they were not going to fix it without him paying.eventually they said ok another 3 days another diff lock later and hes back on the road. few weeks ago same noise returned he says driving in a straight line its just a rumble but when turning a corner or manouvering to park it feels and sounds like somethings catching in the back axle.he contacted garage again and the workshop foreman was adamant they were not doing anymore work under warranty. He told them he will contact hyundai direct and got a call from the garage a couple of hours later from same foreman to say they will do the job and cover 50% of costs. Now he says hes not sure what to do,if they fix it and he pays 50% and a few months from now it goes again he cant keep paying.what he wanted me to ask the people on here is if any of you ever had this problem and was it solved if so how?hes very reluctant to let this garage try again and would rather pay all the cost at another garage if it solved the problem.
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

got some bad news for you but from what i gathered when working in a motor factors back around 2006-2008 the then new 06 santa fe had rear diff problems, in some cases the casing would litrally explode open, prematurely fail for no obvious reason powertrain just giving up and wheel bearings go.
instead of fixing these under warrenty for the 5yr/100.000mile warrenty they cut that way shorter on the powertrain side of it to something 50.000/5yr.
i would take the 50/50 and get it done again, but then seek to rid the car forever, as on some of the santa fe's had the problem some didnt but enough for the warranty to be cut short for the powertrain on them.
a new rear diff he'd be looking at £1500-£2000 wich may not cure the problem if fixes are doing it for 3500 miles or so that would be enough for him to get rid with no problems at the time and off load that problem.
i'd agree to the 50-50 payment then get shot asap0
